!!! I AM NEVER SURE WHAT YOU WANT, FANDOM. I mean, it is great everyone can often find common ground when it comes to a program that has almost fifty years of history—because arguments and different interpretations are bound to happen!—but sometimes it gets kind of clichéd, discouraging, and exhausting when it comes at the expense of a character that have done nothing to inspire such levels of hate. Martha Jones only asked wished for one thing while she was travelling with the Doctor: respect and, when it made clear she would never receive that wish, she got out. Yes, she did harbor a crush for Ten—given the way they met [Judoon on the Moon!, unexpected kisses, his face and sort], can you even blame her?—but Martha never once expected him to return her feelings and, throughout series three, she only referenced them to company when the Doctor was out of earshot.
You cannot hold that against her. Logically it just does not work out, because she was being respectful during her stay on the TARDIS. It was Ten who kept disregarding her feelings. It was Ten who was dragging her place to place for seven episodes before giving her a key to the TARDIS. It was Ten who was ready to sacrifice himself with a disregard for Martha’s safety and ability to get home. It was Ten who pushed the idea she would never and could never measure up to a woman she had never met while she kept pushing and pulling through to save his life countless of times.
How could you even come out of series three hating Martha once you realize all the trouble she went through? Was it because Martha wasn’t Rose? (Probably. RTD certainly did not help matters!) Was it because Martha was black. (Fandom, we need to have discussions about your internalized racism, tbh!) Was it a combination of the two or possibly a third and four bullshit excuse? Because, to me, it does not make sense. And, whoa, it needs to stop.

Fucking really?!?!Racist? Oh, okay, so I love Mickey but hate Martha because I’m racist..Makes perfect sense.And people keep talking rubbish about Rose fans. But just look at this!I had my reasons for not liking her. She is my least favorite companion, but I do not hate her, and it sure as hell isn’t because of her skin tone.

tl;dr but i love me some martha.
